enjoyable weekend for established wargamers, but we will of course have a few
prizes to be won. Entry is open to all

organisers. The rules-pack will be

Merseyside Meltdown 08
Once again
the Terra Nova Gryphons put on there spectacular Merseyside Meltdonw and yet
again we sent a small but capable posse of troops to steal some
silverware. Hosted in the Adelphi Hotel,
Liverpool this is an up and coming event which has not failed to impress in
either location or organisation. A new
limit of 2500 points this year meant we had to put the thinking caps on and
design armies quite a way above our norm.
Will Godwin
came away with 3rd place using his Sylvanian Vamps in there last
ever outing before the new army book release and there was a welcome comeback
for John Murphy to the Wargaming scene after several years of exile. On the downside Sib was caught speeding on
the way home and now has to cough up £60 making this quite an expensive weekend
for him.

Sheffield Slaughter 08
We packed the fun-bus full of fat NWA members, beer
and a dodgy CD composed by DJ Sib then headed off at the crack of dawn for
Sheffield. An excellent weekend and
despite not reaping any glory what-so-ever this was still one of the best
events on the gaming calendar with laughs a plenty.
We did manage joint second place in the quiz this
year, despite some foolishly hard questions and it was another sad event for
the Badger Trophy, will we ever win the damn thing. One thing is for certain, it was a cracking
weekend enjoyed by all who travelled.
The fun-bus will definitely be repeated in the near future.

Autumn Annihilation – The Verdict
With an attendance of 22 players some travelling from
as far as Peterborough this would be a hotly contested event. A contingent of Dragon Slayers had made the
long trip north, braving the bitter climate and were please to have not leave
empty handed. Martin Bunting took first
place with good scores in all departments; Shane Baxter took his first ever
podium place with some very good results and Warhammer returnee Mark Muslek
also put in a strong performance to finish in 3rd.
Best painted was close with Dean Unsworth’s new werewolf army pipping Ben
Johnson to the prize and Dean also cleaned up on most sporting opponent with 3
out of 3 votes with Big John just behind him.
The NWA would like to thank all those who gave up the day to attend and
hope you all had a very good time. There
will be another event in the spring before our large National Event in
To sum things up, the atmosphere was great, the
players top class and the day ran with out a hitch in a very relaxed pace. Keep an eye out for future NWA events as they
will only get better as we gain experience and a following with the more we
run.

All Change on the Committee
The club held an EGM to discuss the Chairman’s
resignation. Tristan has a busy year
ahead starting his own business and with a second child on the way so we bid
farewell to his guidance and thank him for 3 strong years of leadership, a
tenure that will not be forgotten. In
his place was elected Dean Unsworth, a man of noble standing and carrying the
clubs hopes and dreams into a new era.
We wish Dean the best of luck and hope he can lead this great club onto
bigger and better things.
On the same night Andy Przybyla moved into the role of
Events Co-ordinator and Steven Davie took the reigns as Secretary. Will Goodwin was welcomed onto the committee
and Mark Hamilton won the vote to be the tournament teams Captain for the 2008. We wish them all good luck and thank them for
their interest and support.

WPS GT 2007
This has been heralded as the last of its kind
planned. The WPS in there heyday
provided the gaming masses with over 8 premier events a year and now only the
club challenge survives as the doors are closed on the last of the GT
series. These are well attended and much
loved events but the members of the WPS committee crave a rest so we thank them
for their time, and say well done on another superb tournament.
The GT was won by Ben Johnson of the Dragon Slayers,
but our own Dean Unsworth was close on his heels taking second place only a
hand full of points the difference. Jon
“Norman” Pegg managed a respectable 3rd with dwarves taking down the
might of Sib in there first round grudge match.
The NWA made up a great part of the Dirty Dozen in this even and we are
rightfully pound of this badge. Mention
also goes out to Will Goodwin who stole into the top ten and the rest of the
team for an excellent weekend away. As
usual all the pictures can be found in the events section scrapbook.

Games Workshop GT Heat 1
We dispatched Will Goodwin and
Shane Baxter to the GW GT this year to see how things have progressed since the
introduction of named characters two years ago.
With the weekend now over we wait with anticipation on there report but
we are glad to say that both qualified and Will managed to get in the top ten
(8th place) with his Lizardmen, and no special characters.

Happy Birthday Sib
34 years young today and doesn’t look a day over
40. This anniversary see’s him pass 20
years since his first ever wargaming experience. Congratulations and have a good day from all
the NWA.

New Members
In a record signing on fee of £5.39 (paid to us) Will
Goodwin has finally switched to the Red NWA Jersey in the first of its kind Wargaming
Club Transfer from the Terra Nova Gryphons.
Apparently there not sad to see him go, but we don’t believe that? Will is an experienced tournament gamer with
quite good pedigree so should make an excellent addition to the ranks.
We also welcome on board a new member in Dave
Pyle. The cheeky Geordie Dave Beasant
look-a-like has come into fantasy wargaming from a short exile from Historical
gaming as he fancies a change of pace and opponent. We expect big things from Dave and hope he
settles into the club well.

Golden Troll
Despite a fairly lacklustre day in the fantasy battle
department, Frazer Eden (1st FOW) and Anth “Shabba” Sheppard (2nd
BB) managed to collect some NWA silver (and gold) ware. I have to say this was a cracking day out and
I didn’t mind getting home late due to the late and relaxing start. Getting 7 members to a 1 day event is quite
an achievement and I’m sure well be considering a whole lot more now we know
the prizes are for the taking.
26/July
Toy Soldier VI
The dust has settled from Toy Soldier and although the
silverware didn’t quite flow, we come home with some very reasonable
placings. Mark Hamilton (3rd),
Andy Przybyla (6th) and Tristan Grant (8th) finished in
the top ten of the fantasy battle rankings, Adam Bone (5th) and
Leigh Martin (8th) finished high in 40k just missing the silverware
and Frazer Eden’s (4th)
Flames of War margin was even slighter.
This was again a very enjoyable event with good NWA
attendance and we officially drunk the most VK Apple racking up 110 bottles at
the Adelphi. This has certainly got the
creative juices flowing and we now look forward to the WPS WHFB GT in November.

Leagues a Coming
August will see the beginning of the next NWA
league. 3 months of hard core playing to
try and take Andy Przybyla trophy away from him. The league is open to all club attendees at a

places with a trophy and games of war vouchers for the winners.

choice by August 13th. First
